The Shepherd's Foundation

History
Shepherd's Foundation ("Foundation") was created in 1981 as an Arizona non-profit corporation for charitable purposes dedicated to the furtherance of the ministries of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church. ("SOV").

Mission
The Foundation supports SOV in its ministry of "Making Jesus Christ Real in the midst of the City" by encouraging, seeking, receiving, investing and managing gifts and bequests from members and friends of SOV and the Foundation. The Foundation's earnings from its endowments are used for seeding and expanding ministries and missions of SOV.

Organization
The Foundation's Board of Directors consists of SOV members elected to serve by the Congregation Council. The President of the SOV Congregation Council serves as an ex-officio member of the Foundation Board.

Operations
SOV provides office space for the Foundation. Regular envelope giving by the Congregation to the Foundation supports its ongoing operating costs. Monies in excess of such costs are made available for various current SOV needs or are added to existing endowments of the Foundation. The Foundation also maintains the records and assists in the subscription for niches in the Columbarium, an important part of the Prayer and Memorial Garden ministry of SOV.

Endowments
SOV members and friends with a special heart for the long-term stability, development and growth of SOV's ministries and missions have contributed substantial funds to Foundation endowments. In these endowments, the principal amounts remain intact and are invested for income yield. The earnings are used for periodic distribution to further the ministries and missions of SOV.

The Foundation now administers the following endowments:

Educations Scholarships and Grants Endowment
Formerly named for SOV's founding pastor, Lyle C. Burns, this endowment makes funds available through scholarships to many SOV students for the furtherance of their Christian education in elementary school, middle school, high school, college or seminary.

Education Loans Endowment
Originally funded with a $100 gift by SOV members Paul and Betty Benien, this now substantial endowment provides interest-free loans to assist SOV students with college education needs.

Missions and Ministries Endowment
This endowment provides funds for support of local, national and global missions. Its funds are also available for seeding new ministries and expanding and revitalizing existing ministries of SOV. SOV Preschool expansion, Parish Nurse Programs and the Prayer and Memorial Garden ministries have been greatly assisted by this endowment.

Christian Living and Teaching Endowment
This endowment provides funds for "Lessons in Living" seminars for SOV and the community through Christian-based study relevant to life's daily challenges. A portion of the earnings of this endowment is given tot he SOV Sunday School program.

Campus and Facilities Endowment
This endowment provides funds to improve the SOV campus and facilities.

Children-Youth-Seniors Endowment

This endowment provides funds:

To Children: Supporting charitable programs for needy children by providing monies for clothing and materials.
To Youth: Supporting needy youth of SOV in their Christian activities and outreach to neighborhood youth.
To Seniors: Assisting seniors and elderly members of SOV in their particular needs.
