Welcome to Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church of Phoenix, Arizona. I am so glad you tripped across this site. If you are new, that is exciting. I am relatively new, too. I arrived here in August of 2015. You should know that you have been in my prayers. In advance, I have prayed for every single person who would view this web page. My continued prayers are for the many diverse people who will experience the presence of Jesus through this faith community. Together we will seek to be Jesus in the midst of the city of Phoenix. We strive to recognize and nurture Jesus in ourselves and each person whom we encounter along the way. Please accept this as an invitation to come worship on Saturday or Sunday to experience for yourself the presence of Jesus in our midst. Click Here to learn more about the worship styles and times. When you do come, let's meet. I would love to say, "Welcome to your new faith home". Until then, know that Jesus is with you each and every single day. It does not matter who you are, what you have done, what your background is, if you are religious or not- You are loved by God.

Shepherd of the Valley is a great place to be on Wednesday evenings. We are a community made up of many generations. If you are looking to connect with people, Wednesdays at Shepherd of the Valley will give you a special place to achieve that goal. Busy families can come out for a provided meal and make new friends. After the meal there are activities for all ages. Read this if you are looking to grow your family in faith and life.
ONE WORSHIP SERVICE AND ALL-CHURCH POTLUCK: ALL GENERATIONS’ SUNDAY
Sunday August 14th- Worship is at 9:30am with a potluck and community building to follow in Burns Hall from 10:45am-12 noon. Bring a dish to share. This is an all-church community event. We hope to have people of all ages, representing all generations, participating as we observe A Blessing & Celebration of Generations’ Sunday!
Following the single 9:30am service, we will gather in Burns Hall for the Blessing of Generations and to celebrate the gifts of each generation. We will pray, talk, laugh, and learn more about one another and all the generations that come together to form Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church. And we will eat too- bring a dish to share! This time together is for ALL ages and stages, singles and households of every configuration.
On Generations’ Sunday you will also be able to meet Linda Staats who will be helping to facilitate our baptismal promises and discipleship. Linda currently serves the ELCA national church, coordinating the Coaching of Leaders in Stewardship and Faith Practices. She previously served both the Grand Canyon & Rocky Mt. Synods as Assistant to the Bishop for Faith Formation. Her mission is to engage, equip, and empower all generations for serving like Jesus at home and in the world. Her greatest joy is bringing people of all ages together for meaningful interaction and faith growth.
Taking our baptismal promises seriously and committing to encourage discipleship growth in all families, Sunday August 14th will serve as a kick-off for the following 8 weeks of our worship, education hour, and Sunday School (adults and kids) focused on learning about Fruits of the Spirit. Linda will be with us to lead, facilitate, mentor and guide us in truly being the Body of Christ in our worshipping and learning - all ages together! The Sunday morning education hour will start on August 21 and be between worship services in Burn's Hall starting at 9:30 a.m.
Note: August birthdays will be celebrated during the potluck.
New Discipleship Worship Service called the UNDERGROUND is coming Wednesday, August 17th @ 5:45 pm in Burns Hall (music starts @ 5:30 pm)! The early church had to go underground where they found support. This new worship experience will embrace a variety of music, crowd participation and conversation, a diversity of arts, and be flexible in style. The purpose is to invite the Holy Spirit to build us into an authentic church, similar to the early New Testament community.
The teachings/topics will be different than Sunday worship and will focus on discipleship teaching. Who should come? Anybody interested in a mid-week time of spiritual growth in faith, anyone that is going to be away for the weekend, and all Confirmation students (required).
